  • Reservations are encouraged but not required. We are happy to welcome walk-ins for our social sauna sessions as capacity allows — you’ll be asked to create an account on-site to sign our waiver. We highly recommend reservations for private sauna bookings.

  • From your computer or phone’s browser, visit the ‘Social Sauna’ tab to see our availability. From here you can create an account, sign our waiver and purchase and reserve your session or credits.

You can also manage your account and reservations from our app — search GloFox on your mobile device’s App Store to download then search Surfside Sauna. From there you can log in, purchase credits and manage reservations on the app.

  • Sessions are 60 minutes so you can experience multiple rounds of sauna and plunge throughout the session. Everyone is different, therefore, there isn’t a '"perfect” way to utilize your session.

  • To accommodate all guests and manage our schedule efficiently, we require at least 12 hours' notice to cancel your reservation.

No shows will be charged in full.

  • Yes, water is available outside of the sauna. We also have an area to relax between sauna and plunge.

  • Guests must be 18 years or older to use the sauna.

    • Athletic attire or bathing suit — please wear upon arrival; however, there are restrooms nearby!

    • Two towels — one for sitting and one for drying. While we don’t have showers, we recommend using the ocean to rinse off.

    • Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

    • Optional: Sauna hats, water shoes (nice to have when walking to the beach for a plunge!)

There is storage for personal belongings. Surfside Sauna is not responsible for lost items.

  • Drinking or bringing alcohol is strictly prohibited.

  • We do not have a private restroom, however two Avila Beach public restrooms are a short distance away.

  • If you have certain medical conditions (like heart conditions, low blood pressure, or are pregnant) please consult with a healthcare provider before booking a session.

  • The sauna temperature will range from 170-195 degrees Fahrenheit with an option to add water to the rocks. This provides a much fuller heat than a typical gym sauna experience.

  • Our sauna is made from thermally-modified Aspen and uses clean-burning propane with proper ventilation, so your experience is all heat and steam — no fumes, no smells.

Our sauna is professionally designed by BW Sauna Co. with a Scandia stove and maintained to ensure safe operation at all times.

  • Your health, comfort, and peace of mind matter to us. That’s why we follow a strict cleaning protocol to ensure every sauna session is safe, hygienic, and deeply relaxing.

    What we do:

    • Daily: Clean benches and floors with a natural solution.

    • Weekly: Scrub wood and clean heater.

    • Monthly: Deep disinfect and maintenance cycle.

What you can do: Sit on a towel, leave shoes, food and beverages (water is welcome!) outside.

About us

My name is Brian — I’m originally from the Twin Cities and moved to San Luis Obispo with my fiancé Madison in 2020. I’ve long been an advocate of staying active and opting outside to escape the constant technology and stressors of daily life, so you can find me running, biking or playing basketball at the gym.

I’d been a casual gym sauna-goer but it wasn’t until experiencing a true Finnish sauna session that I felt inspired to bring that blend of wellness, nature and relaxation to Avila Beach. Thank you to BW Sauna in Duluth, Minnesota, for your expert design and we appreciate the Port San Luis Harbor District for welcoming us to join this incredible coastline community.

Whether the sauna is already a regular part of your wellness routine or you’re curious to try it for the first time, come breathe deep, slow down, and reconnect—with nature and yourself.

Brian has more than seven years of experience in recreational therapy including several summers on staff at a camp in Maine. By day, he works as a Recreational Therapist at a local hospital and operates Surfside Sauna Thursday-Sunday.
